Pro vs Free (what actually changes)

Sign up and subscribe on perplexity.ai

   Create an account at perplexity.ai

   Open perplexity.ai and sign in with email, Google, Apple, or other official options shown on the page. Use your own account—no shared “Pro slots.”

   Compare plans on the Pro page

   Visit perplexity.ai/pro → Compare plans / Get Pro. The page shows what Pro includes versus Free and Max; billed amounts appear at checkout (monthly or annual per Billing FAQ).

   Or upgrade from Account settings

   Profile icon → Account → Subscription → follow upgrade / Manage Plan prompts (Billing FAQ). Desktop cancel also lives under Settings → Subscription (Canceling a subscription).

   Finish checkout

   Complete payment with a supported method. Currency, tax, and trials follow the checkout screen—not blog estimates.

   Confirm Pro is active

   Subscription should show Pro; search box should offer Pro Search and Pro-tier models. If status is missing, Help lists payment, email, and cache steps on What is Perplexity Pro?.

Manage billing and cancel

   Web subscription

   Billing FAQ: profile → Account → Subscription → Manage Plan → Cancel Subscription. Or use Settings → Subscription on desktop per Canceling a subscription.

   App Store / Google Play

   If you subscribed in iOS or Android, manage renewal in the store—Perplexity Help has separate iOS/Android billing articles.

   After cancel

   Pro features run until the current billing period ends, then the account returns to Free (store billing articles).

First Pro Search with verifiable citations

   New thread, pick Pro Search

   Start a thread and choose Pro Search (or switch modes in the search box per Pro Search Help). Optionally pick a model from the Pro list (supported models).

   One checkable question

   Ask something you can verify from links—e.g. “Compare two vendors’ published pricing for SKU X and cite primary pages.” Avoid five unrelated asks in one prompt.

   Read citations, not only the summary

   Pro aims for up to ~10× citations per answer. Click sources; if a claim has no link, narrow the question or switch focus (Web / Academic / Finance / Files per Help).

   Optional: attach a file

   Use + Attach or drag a PDF/CSV/image when Files mode needs document context. Uploads use rolling weekly allowances for all paid tiers—meter messages in-product when limits apply.
