Keep gemini.google.com
Open-ended chat, images, and web-wide Deep Research live in the Gemini app—not the notebook source boundary (Learn about Gemini Notebook).

- 02Import from Drive
Select one or multiple supported Drive files; you need access to those files.

Chat basics
- Where summaries appear
- After sources load, Chat shows a summary of all sources (Create a notebook).
- How to ask
- Type questions, instructions, or pick suggestions (Use chat in Gemini Notebook).
- Multiple sources

In a notebook with sources, open the Studio panel (Learn about Gemini Notebook).
- 02Select Audio Overview
Generate Audio Overview: choose Audio Overview in Studio. Two AI hosts discuss key topics from your sources.

Help documents joining the conversation with your voice to ask hosts for more detail—subject to account/device requirements listed there.
- 05Languages
Official Help cites 80+ languages for Audio Overview; options appear in Studio controls.
Minimum loop: one PDF + one URL → one Chat question naming sources → one Audio Overview for your commute—three steps beat guessing from generic Gemini chat.
Not the same bill as Google One or Perplexity
Free tier has source and generation caps; higher limits may follow Google AI plans—see usage limits. Compare Google One AI and Perplexity Pro. Align choices on oakmeet—browser room, space code, no account. Limits: eight people, about an hour.
notebooklm.google.com redirects to notebook.google.com?
Google routes the web app to notebook.google.com; sign in with the same account. Feature details stay in Gemini Notebook Help.
How many sources on the free tier?
Add or discover new sources lists up to 50 sources for free users, ~500,000 words or 200MB each. Higher caps: Manage usage limits and your Google AI status.
Does Audio Overview cost extra?
Generate Audio Overview states requirements to generate/delete Audio Overviews (account, region, usage). Whether it fits free quota follows in-product prompts and usage limits—this page does not sell plans.
Can I rely on Chat for legal decisions?
No. Verify against original PDFs/docs; Google warns AI can be inaccurate.
